You can do this by simply clicking/tapping on the little blue X icon at the top-right of each message in the messages section. This will instantly delete the message, so make sure you only do this when you're sure!
Go to the member profile you're interested in and click the blue 'Follow' button. The member will get a notification via email that you are following them and encourages them to follow you and reach out as well.
