With decades of experience behind us, GEM Cable is proud of a history built on innovation, reliability and trusted partnerships.


1986

Founded as The Cable Factory in St Albans, Hertfordshire, the company started it's journey serving the telecoms market. This laid the foundation for what would become a leader in bespoke cable solutions. 


2000

Steve Jack joined as engineer manager, bringing extensive experience from the aerospace sector. His appointment marked the beginning of a new era of strategic transformation and growth.


2004

Steve Jack acquired the business and rebranded it as Gem Cable Solutions Ltd. The company shifted it's focus to high- cost- of- failure manufacturing, emphasising quality, reliability, and innovative engineering.


2008

Gem achieved ISO 9001 certification, demonstrating a strong commitment to quality management systems and continuous improvement.


2014

Driven by business expansion and an increasing workforce, Gem relocated to it's current location in St Albans, significantly enhancing operational capabilities.


2017

Gem invested in an in- house IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certified IPC Trainer (CIT) to ensure all staff are trained to the highest industry standards for cable and wire harness assemblies, reinforcing it's commitment to quality and continuous professional development.


2019

Gem secured ISO 14001:2015 accreditation, reinforcing it's dedication to environmental management and sustainable operations.


2020

A state-of-the-art Class 8 cleanroom was installed, allowing Gem to meet rigorous industry standards and broaden it's technical offerings.


2021

Gem achieved AS9100 certification, underscoring it's dedication to meeting the highest aerospace quality standards.


2022

To meet growing demand, the company opened a second facility at Mallow Park in Welwyn Garden City, strengthening it's production capacity and customer support across two locations. The new site was specifically established to enhances Gem's capabilities in manufacturing bespoke panels, cabinets and box builds. 


2024

The company was awarded the Ecovadis Platinum Medal, recognising exceptional performance in corporate social responsibility and sustainability practices. 


2025

Gem achieved SC21 accreditation, further cementing it's reputation for excellence within the aerospace and defence sector
