Academic summary reference
An Academic summary or Diploma Supplement is a summary of all the modules and qualifications that you’ve completed and/or are currently studying with us.
This type of reference is useful if you need to provide confirmation that you’re an Open University student to an employer or on an application for further study. Your Student Academic Summary is available from your Study record page on StudentHome.
We can provide you with an authenticated Diploma Supplement (also known as an Academic Transcript) for completed qualifications. Email cqc.verifications@open.ac.uk to request an authenticated Diploma Supplement. Please allow up to 10 working days for this service.
Academic reference
This is a written statement that confirms any studies you completed and/or any modules or qualifications you’re currently studying towards. It can be used for a job application, an application for further study, a vocational course or for an application to a graduate body.
The statement comprises
- A covering letter outlining your studies.
- A Diploma Supplement/Academic Summary setting out the detail of any modules or qualifications and your results (also available from your Study record page on StudentHome).
- The structure of your degree and its learning outcomes.
This reference can be provided even if you haven’t completed a qualification.
Proof of study reference
It specifies the module(s) you’re studying, and the number of hours involved for your level of study.
It can be used for a job application, an application for further study, a vocational course or for an application to a graduate body.
UCAS reference
This is a reference for your Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) application.
Council Tax
This is a letter confirming your hours of study with the OU.

All refrenece letters will be sent via email unless specified by you in the requirements of your reference request.
References usually take 10 days, but please allow up to 3 weeks for your reference request to be processed during our busiest times.
